Summary

CPS Energy offers incentives for new residential construction that is at least 15% more efficient than required by the City of San Antonio Building Code (based on IECC 2009). The building code and incentive program were created by Ordinance 2009-03-12-0179 (the Sustainable Building Codes Ordinance) and further amended by Ordinance 2009-10-01-0777D. The Residential New Construction Incentive Program does not specify eligible measures, but rather provides incentives for the amount of energy saved overall. Savings are based on the total energy consumption of all fuel types used in the building.

CPS Energy offers builders and contractors incentives for new, energy-efficiency residential buildings in the CPS Energy service area in San Antonio. Buildings located within San Antonio can use any approved testing method to demonstrate that they meet the required efficiency level. Areas served by CPS Energy that are not in the City of San Antonio may still be eligible for the incentive, but must be certified using Build San Antonio Green's certification program.
Multi-family residential buildings qualify for the residential incentives if they have 3 units or fewer. Buildings with 4 units or more qualify as commercial buildings and are eligible for the New Commercial Construction incentives. Applications, guidelines, checklists, and other information are available on the program web site.
